WHAT GOES INTO THE COST OF A WEDDING DJ?
More than the guy who will DJ for a few hours with his controller and laptop: The price for a disc jockey (along with all the equipment needed for a successful party) can be anywhere from €380 to €2000+. See what goes into that cost and why the Brits use the old fashioned but more appropriate term “mobile disco”.
EQUIPMENT
DJs normally bring thousands of Euros of professional sound and lighting equipment, cables, microphones, and stands to an event. These are periodically replaced to keep them top of the line. If a couple were to rent this gear on their own, they could expect to pay hundreds of Euros (setup not included).
TRAVEL
Vehicle cost (ususally a minivan), maintenance, insurance, and gas (especially to venues across Greece) all play a role in the cost of the event.
MEETINGS AND PLANNING
A good DJ will meet at least once with the couple to plan their special day, will be in touch with the wedding planner or venue manager (for details that sometimes make all the difference) and then spend a few hours preparing the music.
SETUP
Prep, packing and loading, travel, setup, reception time, tear down, travel back home: Just on your wedding day, a DJ will typically spend 15-20 hours (often with the help of an assistant).
WEBSITE & MARKETING
It costs to maintain a professional website, along with making sure new clients are aware of a DJ's presence through social media and other means.
TALENT AND EXPERIENCE
You can't really put a price on this one. It's what seperates the professional from the hobbyist, the €200 DJ from the €1000 DJ. Number and variety of events performed, years in the industry, reviews from past couples, and photos/videos of events are good indicators of a DJ's experience.
A QUALITY DJ IS LIKE FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE
It gives you peace of mind on your special day. Sure, you can pay a rock bottom price for a policy that barely covers your old Ford Fiesta, but your wedding isn't a used car. It's the Mercedes or BMW of events, and a Mercedes deserves the full coverage of a professional DJ.
